What is Netiquette?

A contraction of Internet and Etiquette, refers to guidelines for posting messages to online services (e.g., email or discussion boards) to demonstrate courtesy and regard for other users.

What should students do to be safe when using email and the Internet?

1.  I will not give out personal information such as your address, phone number, parents’ telephone number, work information without parent permission.

2.  I will not give out passwords to anyone other than my parents.

3.  I will never agree to get together with anyone I “meet” online.

4. I will not post pictures of myself or others that would be inappropriate.

What are copyright, plagiarism and Fair Use?

Copyright refers to the legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same.

Plagiarism refers to the act of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as your own.

Fair Use refers to limited rights to use brief excerpts of copyrighted material without the need for permission.
